Some stuff I watched and thoughts on them.

Recently Watched:

  1. Kiki’s Delivery Service from Studio Ghibli: A surprisingly tender, fun movie that feels like summer break, you know. And definitely does not feel like you are watching something from 1986. It’s crazy how good Studio Ghibli was (is?).
  2. The Roses starring Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman: Cracking duo. And Screenplay for them to shine. Loved it. The ending…uh…may be?

  3. The Hot Spot : A slow paced Japanese comedy set in a small town near Mount Fuji with absolutely adorable cast of characters. Especially the 3 chatterbox friends who find that one of their coworkers is a literal alien. Absolutely loved the inane conversations and of course, the Japanese sounds.
  4. Hail, Caesar!: A 2016 movie from Coen brothers, starring fantastic set of assorted cast including Clooney and Tilda Swinton, Scarlett Johansson and many more. Smart dialogues. Quick pace. And outrageously funny plot. Josh Brolin is good.
  5. Honey Dont: Described as the “2nd part of a lesbian B-Movie trilogy” by Ethan Coen and Tricia Cooke. Make what you will of that. But I found it quite entertaining. Great cast. Sharp dialogues. Very different “B-movie” cinematography that felt fresh. And good plot twists.

I have been really working my way through Coen brothers’ movies; also started The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, but could not get past the 3rd piece in the anthology. Got too dark. May be another time.

Also Neeyat with Vidya Balan (surprisingly dull, but good twist). All 3 movies in the Divergent series - a completely forgettable one.

And F1 with Brad Pitt in it, The Family Plan 2 starring Mark Wahlberg and The Electric State starring Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt.
